KC Grad: Engaging Public Perceptions of Serbia

This is the second blog post of rock sculptor, mise en scene manipulator, William Fielding. Portrait Srbija have completed a few more interviews since we last spoke, and the documentary's aesthetic has continued to progress and mature. On Wednesday 17th June, we occupied Belgrade's KC Grad and took over the space for an open interactive art workshop. Tash and Maja laid out a large piece of white, embellished traditional linen upon the floor of KC Grad, and with it provided a variety of art materials. The aim was to allow attendees of the space (and passersby) to stop, think and illustrate their own portrait of Serbia today - their feelings towards it, their associations and so on. Dan and myself filmed the entirety of the day from the prep to the illustrations being made. So, I will allow the above video we made to do most of the talking. Alongside the B roll footage of the event, we captured interviews with five different attendees as well as KC Grad's owner, Dejan Ubović whom discussed the spaces' origin. Through Dejan's discussion of Belgrade's art scene during the 90s, he gave us an interesting insight into the correlation between artistic motivations and times of hardship.

Enjoy the vid!

Until next time,

Will
