Expectations: Creating a Portrait of Serbia

A lift, a plane and a taxi. After years, I have been reunited with the sweetest old lady on our lovely planet, my little Serbian Baka. Coming to Belgrade after so many years was not the strange experience I had anticipated. The smell, the feel and the atmosphere was like coming home after a long arduous day of work. I felt at ease. This time however, I was here for a specific purpose. I had returned ‘home’ to create a portrait, of which hopefully will alter the minds of many ignorant people in the west. I have arrived to try to create a real visual and emotional understanding of this new country, as we all now know as Serbia.

There are many expectations I have for this project, both in terms of the production process and cultural engagement, all leaving me excited for the unique life stories we might encounter along our journey. Even though I am excited about the project and what we are trying to achieve, I’m nervous about showing this second country of mine the proper respect and admiration it deserves. I'm not sure it has all kicked in yet, the sheer scale of our goals, but I feel confident and privileged to be able to do it with the team around me. This won’t be the last you have heard of my rambles. This is Danny, signing out.
